Arab League Renews Full Solidarity with Palestinian Media, Calls for International Protection
Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi reaffirmed the league’s full solidarity with Palestinian media amid the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a statement marking the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Media, Ambassador Khattabi noted that as of April, 212 Palestinian journalists had been killed and at least 400 injured, making Gaza the most dangerous place in the world for practicing journalism.
Ambassador Khattabi emphasized that this day serves not only as a symbolic commemoration but also as a renewed call on the international community to support Palestinian media, especially in the face of blatant violations by Israeli occupation forces and severe infringements on press freedoms. He condemned the targeting of journalists carrying out their duties under dangerous humanitarian conditions and harsh living circumstances, similar to other unarmed civilians enduring bombardment, siege, and starvation.
He further reiterated the Arab League’s condemnation of the Israeli occupation’s ongoing crackdown on Palestinian media in all its forms and its disregard for international humanitarian law.
