Volcanic Mountains Define Turabah’s Distinctive Natural Landscape
Volcanic mountains in Turabah Governorate are among its most prominent natural landmarks, shaping a distinctive geographical identity through dark rock formations that extend across vast areas interwoven with valleys, ravines, and plains, forming striking landscapes that reflect the richness of the geological heritage and diverse terrain in the southeastern part of Makkah Region.
These mountains stand out for their solid volcanic formations dating back to ancient geological eras, with black rocks scattered across the lava fields resembling natural sculptures shaped over time.
Tour guide Adel Manahi Al-Buqami told the Saudi Press Agency that Jabal Hadan is one of the most famous natural landmarks in Turabah, distinguished by its towering black mountain range linked to Arab heritage and historical routes, from which several valleys and ravines descend. He added that the surrounding valley has formed a natural extension that contributed to the emergence of settlement and agricultural areas throughout successive historical periods.
Al-Buqami noted that these natural formations are connected to several well-known valleys, particularly Wadi Turabah, one of the region’s largest and most extensive valleys. It originates in the Sarawat Mountains and flows through long routes that have helped create a rich agricultural and natural environment, in addition to an underground dam linked to several water tributaries that sustain surrounding vegetation cover and revitalize nearby lands during rainfall seasons.
