Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project Revitalizes Historic Al-Zarqa Mosque in Tharmada

The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques has rehabilitated Al-Zarqa Mosque in Tharmada, Riyadh, as part of a national effort to preserve the Kingdom’s religious and architectural heritage.

Dating back to the reign of Imam Faisal bin Turki between 1259 AH and 1282 AH (1843–1865) and later renovated under the reign of King Abdulaziz, the mosque is a prime example of traditional Najdi architecture, constructed from mud, stone, and tamarisk wood.

The project restored its authentic features, including its 11.29-meter square minaret, prayer hall, and traditional well, while ensuring sustainability through modern technology.

Spanning 326 square meters and accommodating 100 worshippers, the mosque's revival aligns with Vision 2030 by highlighting the cultural and civilizational dimensions of historical sites through the expertise of specialized Saudi engineers and companies.
