What is the First Mosque Built in Islam?

Quba Mosque holds a unique place in Islamic history as the first mosque ever established. Located 3.5 kilometers south of the Prophet’s Mosque, it was built on a site originally known as Quba village, an area once famous for its lush orchards and palm groves.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) participated in the mosque’s initial construction using stone, a task later completed by his companions. This historic site marks the first mosque built following the Prophet's Hijrah (migration) to Madinah and is celebrated as the location where the first public Friday prayer was held.

Deeply significant to the Sunnah, the Prophet made it a practice to visit Quba Mosque every Saturday, arriving either on foot or by mount, to perform two rak'ahs of prayer. To this day, it remains a vital landmark for pilgrims and visitors seeking to connect with the earliest days of the Islamic faith.
