Mawani Announces Maersk Group’s Acquisition of Stake in South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port
The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) announced that A.P. Moller - Maersk, through its wholly owned subsidiary APM Terminals, has acquired a 37.5% stake in the South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port. The move positions Jeddah as one of Maersk’s key gateways for boosting connectivity to local markets and its global maritime network.
The partnership is expected to establish a strategic presence for Maersk at Jeddah Islamic Port, contributing to increased vessel calls and transshipment container volumes, and attracting additional Maersk-affiliated and partner shipping lines. This will further enhance the port’s status as a major trade hub on the Red Sea coast.
This development underscores the Kingdom’s attractiveness as a global logistics hub and a link connecting three continents. It also supports the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030 by expanding international maritime connectivity and enhancing the Kingdom’s integration into global supply chains.
