ZATCA Enables Individuals to Pay Zakat Optionally through ‘Zakat’ Platform

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) called on individuals to pay their zakat voluntarily through the “Zakat” smartphone application or via its website zakaty.zatca.gov.sa.
The platform enables users to calculate zakat due on various types of assets, including cash, gold, silver, shares, investment funds, and real estate held for trade. It also issues a payment invoice, sends reminders for zakat due dates, and calculates zakat on gold based on its purity using a dedicated algorithm. The service is linked to global gold and silver prices to ensure accurate calculation.
The “Zakat” platform allows users to add previously saved assets to the extended calculator, enabling them to review and manage all zakatable assets within their personal accounts.
ZATCA stated that total zakat collected through the platform has exceeded SAR904 million. The authority clarified that the service has been operational for nine years, with the minimum payment amount set at SAR1,000 since its launch. All funds collected through the platform are directed to social security beneficiaries registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, in accordance with the categories selected by users.
The authority added that the service is available around the clock via the “Zakat” application, enabling individuals to calculate and pay their zakat through secure and reliable banking channels, including SADAD, Apple Pay, mada, and other approved payment options. This facilitates prompt and flexible delivery of zakat to eligible beneficiaries.
Users may select beneficiary categories registered under social security programs, including families most in need of housing, families of divorced women, families of prisoners, and other eligible groups.
ZATCA affirmed that the service operates under the supervision of specialists in zakat jurisprudence and accounting to ensure compliance and accuracy.
